Summer Reading Assignment
Welcome to Advanced Placement US History. Over the course of the school year we will explore 400 years of American History. Skills necessary to prepare for the AP exam include analyzing primary sources.
Analyzing primary sources:
Book:
Documents to Accompany America's History, Volume I: to 1877 . The books range in cost from $.01 (used) to $27 (New) I suggest you purchase the books used from any of the following websites listed below. You will need to have Documents to Accompany America's HistoryVolume II since 1865, as work will be assigned during the school year.
Assignment:
You will read and answer questions for 162 of the primary sources, each with at least 3 questions per source, for a total of 486 questions. Put answers in a composition notebook, which will be used exclusively for the summer assignment.
Format:
Divide them by chapters. Your handwriting must be clear and neat. Scribble, exaggerated small print, or messy work will not be graded. Leave one line space between each set of primary source titles and questions as the EXAMPLE below shows. Use the format below to complete the assignment. As many questions are lengthy you will not be required to copy them.
This assignment is an independent assignment and any indication that collaboration or plagiarism has occurred will result in a ZERO. You DO NOT have to answer - Questions for Further Thought. They appear periodically throughout the book.
